How Businesses Can Start Fighting Back Against Climate Change

If you haven’t grasped the severity of climate change, you need to take a long look at yourself. Despite what conspiracy theorists or climate change deniers might tell you, there’s no denying the world is getting hotter, and climates are changing. We already know that climate change can lead us towards a very bleak future. We also know that there are ways to slow down this change and preserve our natural environment.

Specifically, a lot of responsibility should fall on the shoulders of big corporations and businesses. When you look at the impact on the atmosphere, it’s usually businesses that are the most negative. So, how can organizations start making a difference? It’s far easier than you might think, and these suggestions will prove that:

Use alternative energy sources

One easy way to fight back against climate change is to seek out alternative and renewable energy sources. Think about all the massive factories all over the world. Now, imagine that they switched to solar or wind energy. The reduction in carbon emissions would be incredible. A complete switch may be impossible, but businesses can at least try and subsidize renewable energy sources. Smaller companies that only have an office or a store to power can definitely switch to a less damaging energy source!

Sell more eco-friendly products

Some companies can definitely alter the products they sell. Instead of selling things made from plastic, they can sell more eco-friendly alternatives. This is easily possible, particularly from the point of view of promotional products. A business may sell loads of different things to promote itself to customers. If it just switched to eco alternatives, the carbon footprint of that business would decline. Such an easy change to make, and so wildly effective if all businesses did it.

Reduce plastic packaging materials

This point can also apply to any other packaging materials that can’t be recycled. How often have you bought a product and had to throw a giant plastic box in the trash? Think about the billions of consumers all over the world that do this every day. Then, consider the environmental impact of creating these packaging materials. It’s so bad for the environment, and one of the leading causes of climate change. Instead, companies need to reduce non-recyclable packaging and opt for more eco-friendly versions.

Reduce waste, recycle more

Similarly, businesses need to improve their recycling efforts. There’s a stat from the UK that states around 25% of all waste in England is produced by businesses. That’s an alarming statistic that probably holds true across most industrial countries. No matter how well people stick to recycling schemes, there’s still a huge chunk of waste being produced by the commercial sector. So, businesses need to reduce waste and learn to recycle more!

It’s not helpful if a huge section of the world isn’t contributing to the fight against climate change. Businesses around the world should start taking action! The four suggestions in this article show just how easy it is to make a change. There’s no excuse, it’s simply irresponsible to run a business and not take action.
