Here is the update from PAGASA for the projected path and tracking of the 2020 Typhoon Ambo as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

“AMBO” MAINTAINS ITS STRENGTH AND IS NOW OVER THE COASTAL WATERS OF SANTA CRUZ, ILOCOS SUR.

Heavy Rainfall Outlook:
•Today: Moderate to heavy rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley and the northern portions of Aurora and Zambales.
•Tomorrow (17 May): Moderate to heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands
•Residents in these areas are advised to take appropriate measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the local rainfall or thunderstorm advisories and heavy rainfall warnings from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions (PRSD). Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur in highly to very highly susceptible areas during heavy or prolonged rainfall.

Coastal Water Conditions:
•Sea travel is risky for all types of seacrafts over the seaboards of areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals #2 and #1 and the east coast of Quezon including Polillo Islands.

•”AMBO” is likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday (18 May) afternoon.

Location of eye/center: At 7:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Storm “AMBO” was estimated based on all available data including those from Mt. Sto. Tomas (Benguet) Doppler Radar over the coastal waters of Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur (17.0°N, 120.3°E).
Strength: Maximum sustained winds of up to 75 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 125 km/h.
Movement: Moving North Northwestward at 20 km/h.

TYPHOON “AMBO” HAS MADE LANDFALL OVER BURIAS ISLAND AND CONTINUES TO WEAKEN.

Landfall Information:
• Past landfalls: San Policarpo, Eastern Samar (12:15 PM yesterday); Dalupiri Island, Northern Samar (10:15 PM yesterday); Capul Island, Northern Samar (10:30 PM yesterday); Ticao Island, Masbate (12:00 AM today); and Burias Island, Masbate (3:00 AM today).
• The typhoon is forecast to move towards the Ragay Gulf before making landfall over the Bondoc Peninsula in Southern Quezon this morning.

Heavy Rainfall Outlook:
• Today: Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Bicol Region, Quezon, Aurora, and Marinduque.
• Tomorrow (16 May): Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and the northern portion of Nueva Ecija.
• Residents in these areas are advised to take appropriate measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the local rainfall or thunderstorm advisories and heavy rainfall warnings from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions (PRSD). Movement: Moving Northwestward at 15 km/h.

The rest of Northern Samar, the extreme northern portion of Eastern Samar (Jipapad, Arteche, Maslog), the northern portion of Samar (Calbayog City, Tagapul-an, Almagro, Sto. Niño. Tarangnan, Sta. Margarita, Gandara, Pagsanghan, San Jorge, San Jose de Buan, Matuguinao), Biliran, the extreme northwestern portion of Leyte (Calubian, San Isidro), the extreme northeastern portion of Capiz (Pilar, Panay, Roxas, Ivisan), and the northeastern portion of Iloilo (Carles, Balasan, Estancia, Batad)

•Today (14 May): Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains over Samar Provinces, Masbate, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes. Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Albay, Camarines Sur, and the rest of Eastern Visayas.
•Tomorrow (15 May): Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains over Bicol Region. Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Northern Samar, Quezon, Aurora, Marinduque, and Romblon.
•Residents in these areas are advised to take appropriate measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the local rainfall or thunderstorm advisories and heavy rainfall warnings from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions (PRSD). Along with large swells, this storm surge may cause potentially life-threatening coastal inundation.
• Sea travel is risky for all types of seacrafts over the seaboards of areas under TCWS.

Landfall Information:
•The typhoon is forecast to make landfall over Northern Samar or the northern portion of Eastern Samar between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM today, before heading towards Sorsogon later tonight. Violent winds and heavy to torrential rains of the eyewall region will begin affecting Northern Samar and the northern portions of Samar and Eastern Samar within 12 hours.

Location of eye/center: At 10:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon “AMBO” was located based on all available data including those from Guiuan Doppler Radar at 140 km East Southeast of Catarman, Northern Samar(12.2°N, 125.9°E).
Strength: Maximum sustained winds of up to 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 190 km/h.
Movement: Moving West at 15 km/h.
