How Does Government Spending Affect You?

Government spending and borrowing have far-reaching impacts on jobs, economic growth, investments and ultimately, the standard of living for every American citizen, now and in the future.

It is the duty of each generation to leave a stronger nation to the generations that follow.

The budget choices that our government makes today, along with the ones they fail to make, have a tremendous impact on the economy, our own lives and the lives of Americans many years into the future.

The problem is that many ordinary US citizens do not fully understand our spending structure and what is included within each budget. Here, we are going to briefly break down some of them for you.

Healthcare: The health care system is the largest sector in the world and consists of a conglomeration of public and private services. Two-thirds of all health care expenditure is covered by the government either by direct expenditures on services such as Medicare and Medicaid or by tax cuts on employer-provided insurance.

Defense: Military spending is the second-largest component in the federal budget after Social Security. It pays for the war on terror against the Islamic State, veterans affairs, homeland security, and the state department as well as the general defense of the United States.

Social security: This the biggest expense and covers welfare services such as Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment benefits. It also includes healthcare services such as Medicaid.
