WHO Declares Coronavirus (COVID-19) Officially A Pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) officially announced Wednesday that the COVID-19 Coronavirus is now a pandemic.

“This is the first pandemic caused by coronavirus,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“In the past two weeks, the number of cases of COVID-19 outside China has increased 13-fold, and the number of affected countries has tripled,” Tedros said.

As of Wednesday, 114 countries have reported that 118,000 have contracted Covid-19. In Italy, the virus has caused more than 630 deaths there, with 10,000 cases, second only to China. There are 9,000 cases in Iran, and more than 7,700 in South Korea.
