Filipino Gymnast Carlos Yulo Makes History for Philippine Sport

Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo just made history for Philippine sport for winning the gold medal in the men’s floor exercise at 49th FIG World Artistic Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany.

The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar hailed on Sunday the triumph of Yulo saying, “We at the PCOO salute the talent and determination to succeed displayed by Carlos Yulo with his gold medal win at the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.”

“Not only has he done the sport of gymnastics in the Philippines proud, Yulo has also done his country proud by being the first Filipino to win a gold medal in the event,” Andanar said in a statement.

Yulo, who scored a total of 15.300, defeated Artem Dolgopyat of Israel who scored 15.200 and Xiao Ruoteng of China who scored 14.933.

Yulo would compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after advancing to the finals of the men’s all- around and floor exercise events.
