Google Doodle honors the 116th anniversary of the birth of Edith Head.

Edith Head died in 1981 at age 83. She was a legendary designer who won eight Academy Awards for her costumes – the most Oscars claimed by a woman. She was the one responsible for creating outfits for hit films including Funny Face, To Catch a Thief and The Birds.

Edith was born in California in 1897 and went on to gain a French degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1919 then a masters in romance languages from Stanford University in 1920.

Edith died seven years later from an incurable bone marrow disease but her star remains on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6504 Hollywood Boulevard.
