Government Shutdown Ends – Pres. Obama Praises Congressional Leaders

Barack Obama has signed legislation to end the partial US government shutdown and raise the country’s debt limit.

The late night signature of the American President came after the Republican-controlled Congress approved an eleventh hour deal.

Obama said: “We will begin reopening our government immediately and we can begin to lift this cloud of uncertainty and unease from our businesses and from the American people.”

The US President added, “Hopefully next time it won’t be in the eleventh hour. One of the things I’ve said throughout this process is we have gotta get out of the habit of governing by crisis.”

The legislation is a temporary respite, as it only extends the federal borrowing limits until February 7 and funds the government to January 15.
