Robin Thicke Billboard Chart: ‘Blurred Lines’ Breaks Records
There is no stopping Robin Thicke. Slightly more than 10 years after his debut album was released, Thicke has scored his first No. 1 album. “Blurred Lines,” his sixth studio effort, starts atop the Billboard 200 with 177,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.??
Thicke is the sixth act this year to hit No. 1 more than a decade after their debut album was released. He follows Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age, Daft Punk, Gary Allan and Chris Tomlin. (Fun fact: So far this year, only one artist—A$AP Rocky—has hit No. 1 with their first album.)??
The single “Blurred” sells another 405,000 downloads (up 30%) this week, rising 2-1 on the chart. It’s now the only song to have ever sold at least 400,000 downloads in four different weeks. The song logs its ninth week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 marking the first time that one artist has topped both the Hot 100 and The Billboard 200 in the same week since the week ending Nov. 25, when Rihanna was in her second week at #1 with “Diamonds” as her album Unapologetic debuted in the top spot.
“Lines” leads Radio Songs for a fifth week, and surges 6% to 219.8 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS, a new record for the chart which launched in December 1990. That sum ends the seven-year audience rule of Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” which peaked with 212.2 million impressions on the chart dated July 9, 2005.
