Jason Collins Interview on GMA: Gay NBA Player Shares Experience (VIDEO)

Jason Collins surprised the NBA sports fans when he came out as gay this week. He is the first active player in one of the four major U.S. pro sports leagues to come out as gay. He wrote a first-person article posted Monday on Sports Illustrated’s website that begins: “I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.”

He sat down with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos for his first interview since coming out as gay.

“It’s incredible. You’re just trying to live an honest, genuine life and the next thing you know you have the president calling you,” Collins said of the reaction that he has received. “He was incredibly supportive and he was proud of me, said this not only affected my life but others going forward.”
