Sinkhole Swallows Pond in Northern California (VIDEO)

In Northern California, a sinkhole opened up and swallowed up a man’s pond.

Mark Korb woke up Sunday morning and saw the pond empty and noticed a sinkhole. “I would guess probably four to five hours for this whole area to drain,” Korb said.

According to a geology professor from nearby Sierra College, the area was used to be an old gold mining field. Unlike other sinkholes that are caused by too much rainwater, the sinkhole might have been due to the old mining activity or a fracture that preexisted underground.
