Marathoner Died After Using Supplement Jack3D

Jack3D DeathA marathoner died after using supplement she bought online.  According to the coroner in an inquest heard yesterday, the London Marathon runner Claire Squires’ dietary supplement, Jack3D, may have contributed to her heart failure.  She collapsed before she could even reached the finish line.  She ran for her charity “Samaritans.”

In the investigation, her boyfriend Simon van Herrewege said the 30-year-old runner’s water bottle included a scoop of the supplement Jack3D, which contains a stimulant called DMAA or dimethylamylamine.

Jack3D is said to boost energy and metabolism, but had been banned in the US and Canada after two soldiers died during strenuous training after taking it.

Coroner Dr Philip Barlow said “I hope that the coverage of this case and events leading up to Claire’s death will help publicise the potential harmful effects of DMAA during extreme physical exertion.”
