Prince Slams Madonna, Maroon 5 in Billboard Interview
The Prince slams the Queen. In a recent Billboard interview, Prince slammed Madonna, especially when he explained why his relationship with Warner Bros. Records went sour.
“It was always about Madonna,” he tells the magazine. “She was getting paid, but at the same time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights.”
The feud between the two has been public. In a Rolling Stone interview in 1994, Madonna called Prince a troll, “[He] was a little troll. He was just sipping tea, very daintily. I have this theory about people who don’t eat. They annoy me.”
During a 2007 concert in London, Prince said this “I got so many hits y’all can’t handle me. I got more hits than Madonna’s got kids.”
The band Maroon 5 was not spared by Prince as well. In the Billboard interview, Prince quipped, “Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what’s already there.” He was referring to Prince’s hit song “Kiss” that the band covered and included on their 2012 album Overexposed.
Prince will be honored with the 2013 Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas on May 19.
