National Dance Day with So You Think You Can Dance Contestants

Past contestants from the TV show “So You Think You Can Dance” will be in Chicago, today, Saturday for the National Dance Day 2010. Randi Evans and Evan Kasprzak, Season 5 contestants, will dance a free performance based on one of the show’s sauciest numbers.

The Evans and Kasprzak performance will take place at 7 p.m. during the weekly SummerDance program, held Thursday-Sunday during the summer in Grant Park. Before their performance, at 6 p.m., there will be free Western swing dance lessons and after it, at 7:30 p.m., the Western Elstons will play two hours of free Western swing music. Carlos C. Tortolero, the SummerDance program manager, welcomes Chicago’s National Dance Day event.

Saturday marks the first time National Dance Day will be celebrated. The day was the brainchild of dancer Nigel Lythgoe, a producer and judge on “So You Think You Can Dance.”
