Race to the Top Second Round Finalists

Tennessee and Delaware were the only two US states to receive funds in the first round of the Race to the Top competition. Today in the second round of funding, eighteen more states and the District of Columbia were selected to receive more than $3 billion of funding. The finalists chosen were: Arizona, California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and South Carolina.

Race to the Top is Pres. Obama’s administration program that is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to reward states for aggressively reforming their education systems. The $4.35 billion is awarded in two phases.
