Rue McClanahan Death – Blanche Devereaux of Golden Girls Died

Rue McClanahan aka Blanche Devereaux of Golden Girls died Thursday, June 3, reportedly from a stroke. She was 76. She began acting in 1957 in off Broadway productions. She landed a role for The Golden Girls in 1985, together with Bea Arthur, Betty White and Estelle Getty. Betty White is the only surviving golden girl. Bea Arthur died in April of 2009 at age 86 and Estelle Getty died in July of 2008 at age 84. The Golden Girls ran for eight seasons, ending in 1992.

Betty White released this statement earlier today regarding Rue McClanahan’s death: “Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasured our relationship. It hurts more than I even thought it would, if that’s even possible.”
