He is now named Pope Leo XIV.
A Journey from Chicago to the Vatican
Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert Francis Prevost’s path to the papacy is a testament to a life dedicated to service, education, and faith. Leadership Roles and Vatican Service
Prevost’s leadership qualities were evident early on. In 2001, he was elected Prior General of the worldwide Augustinian order, a position he held for two terms. His administrative acumen and commitment to the Church’s mission were further recognized when Pope Francis appointed him the Bishop of Chiclayo in Peru in 2015.
