Disney Christmas Advertisement 2020 Features Filipino Christmas Tradition

The recent 2020 Christmas advertisement “From Our Family To Yours” video released by Disney features a grandmother and her granddaughter connecting with each other through their Filipino family traditions.

The story started with a Christmas scene in a local Philippine neighborhood with Lola (which translates to grandmother in Filipino language) receiving a Mickey Mouse toy from her father when she was a child in 1940. The next scenes shift to grandma now living overseas with her granddaughter. Still with grandma is the Mickey Mouse toy she got from her father, which symbolizes her childhood. As the years pass by and the granddaughter grows older, grandma feels that her granddaughter is losing interest in spending time with her. But in a heartwarming surprise, the granddaughter decides to decorate their home with star parols (a parol is a traditional Christmas lantern that most Filipino homes have during the season). The granddaughter’s gesture warms grandma’s heart and transports her back to her happy Christmas childhood in the Philippines.

The story ends with the granddaughter gifting her lola the same Mickey toy.
