Winter Weather Woes: Have You Done Enough For Your Commercial Premises?

When you’re a homeowner, getting ready for winter is a priority because of the effects the wintry weather can have on the home. When you own a business, the priority is the same! You need to keep up regular maintenance of your commercial property, too. There are always regular things that you do when you are maintaining your commercial property, but there are specific things that you should be doing when the weather turns.

You cannot control the weather, but you can control how your premises is affected by it. Taking care of the exterior of the building is just as important as taking care of the building’s interior. Every house has it’s own appeal when it comes to a sale, but commercial buildings must be afforded the same level of attraction. This is up to you! Keeping on top of the exterior maintenance throughout the year, and in the winter months especially, is vital to your insurance and your continuity as a business. So, with that in mind, let’s look at how you can ensure that your commercial premises is – pardon the pun – water tight this year!

Waterproof. Contact a commercial roofing contractor to ensure that your roof has no missing tiles, gaps in the brickwork around the roof and anywhere that water could get in! Your contractor should be able to ensure that your roof is in excellent condition before the winter truly sets in.

Paving. Your outside parking and pavement should be in a safe condition for those walking by and cars driving through. This means cracks in the paving need to be sealed properly and you should grit the area every winter. You should also ensure that parking zones have CCTV and are well lit.

Cleanliness. A little goes a long way, and when the snow and ice comes, the last thing that you need is for there to be dirt and damp hidden away! Have your commercial building exterior regularly cleaned so that your business stays looking professional.

Gutters. This is something your roof contractor can see to, but you should ensure that your gutters are cleaned and well-maintained. Clogged gutters can overflow, which causes breakages and can put a strain on your entire roofing system. When the gutters are backed up, you could end up with a flood. So, get them cleared out regularly and ensure no gunk builds up in the system. Keeping it completely clear will save you money!

Cladding. If your commercial building has cladding on the outside, you need to get them cleaned, repaired and resprayed so that the winter weather doesn’t have an effect. It doesn’t cost much to get it cleaned and ready for the harsher climates, and you can get it done without disruption.

Don’t forget to ensure that your business is maintained regularly, and you can maintain an excellent impression on your clients and your staff, even when the weather has changed and becomes much more difficult to manage!
