How To Travel On A Limited Budget
When it comes to traveling we all know that it’s certainly not the most affordable thing on the planet. However that doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways to travel in a way that’s cost-effective and that can save you some money along the way, so in this post we are going to share with you some of the ways that you can travel on a limited budget.
Choose inexpensive countries:
One of the biggest things to think about when travelling is the countries that you’re going to be visiting, for example, there are some countries that are just more expensive than others and that’s not really going to change anytime soon, so it doesn’t matter what time of year you go they will always be expensive.
That doesn’t mean that you can’t do them on a budget, but it means that you may have a more enjoyable time if you’re able to visit a place that’s more accommodating to your budget and allows you to stretch your money a little bit further.
Visit during off-peak seasons:
Another way to travel more effectively when you have a small budget is to visit places during off-peak seasons.
The reason for this is that not only are things like flights and accommodation going to be far cheaper than they would be during busy tourist seasons such as summer, Christmas and perhaps even Easter, depending on where you go, you will always find that things that are more busy during tourist seasons are going to be a lot more expensive, so for example restaurants will mark up their prices, tours will be a bit more expensive, and a lot of other things will be expensive, too, so if you really want to save your money and also avoid the crowds, then visiting during off peak times is going to be a lot better for you.
Stay at hostels:
Accommodation is definitely one of the biggest costs when it comes to traveling, so if you want to save some money in this area, then staying at hostels is definitely going to help you with that.
Another option is of course saying at things like couchsurfing apartments or even airbnb if you can find affordable accommodation, but hostels in general are definitely going to be a good way of doing this since you can find rooms in all budget sizes and especially if you’re visitng during off-peak seasons, then you’re going to find rooms very affordable, so this is definitely a good way to travel on a budget and not only will you find hostels to be budget friendly, but if you’re looking to have some kind of social interaction and meet new people and do things like go on tours to explore the place where you’re staying, then you’re going to find hostels really provide the full experience in this area.
Eat where the locals do:
Food is another big area that costs a lot of money when travelling, so if you’re looking to save some money and are travelling on a budget, then one of the best things that you can ever do is to try to eat where the locals do.
For example, if you want to try something like Afghanistan cuisine that is completely authentic, then finding the places where the locals are eating then not only are you going to find that it’s a lot cheaper than eating at tourist hotspots but it’s going to be far better quality more affordable and definitely more authentic than anything that you would ever try this marketed towards tourists.
Go on walking tours:
When it comes to traveling, you obviously will want to see as much of the place you’re visiting as possible, though if you’re doing this on a tight budget then you may not be able to afford things like organized group tours, so a good alternative could be to take things like free walking tours since most cities and even bigger towns now offer these.
Free walking tours are a great way to really get to know your way around the city and also meet some cool people along the way.
Of course, if you’re not into group tours at all, then you can simply make your own way around.
Shop around for deals:
Just as you would in any area, when it comes to traveling, it’s important to be on the lookout for good deals. Whether it’s for flights, domestic transport, hotels or tours, there are always lots of deals around as long as you know where to look for them, and typically the best place to find them is online by using things like deal sites and price comparison websites.
Carry hand luggage:
If traveling by plane then you know that luggage limitations can be quite annoying – not to mention pretty expensive if you even go a tiny bit over the limit specified by the airline, but now airlines are making it even more expensive to check your luggage by basically charging you a base price for each bag when in the past it was free.
So, if you’re looking to save some money during your trip, then a good way to do this is by carrying only hand luggage.
One of the other benefits of taking hand luggage only is that, not only do you save money, but you can enjoy extra perks such as being able to bypass the check in and bag drop lines and head straight through security, then you can also leave the airport straight away on the other end without having to wait around for your luggage to show up or worry that it might have gotten lost en route to your destination.
If your luggage does get lost on the way, then this can be a massive inconvenience and although nowadays they have a pretty good system for getting luggage back, it does happen sometimes that it gets lost completely or that you have to spend a few days without any clothes which is not ideal when you’re traveling in another country, so to avoid this, travel only with hand luggage.
