The Crimes That Campers Don’t Realize They’re Committing
When we think of camping, I’m sure that we all think of it as a very wholesome activity. I know that I certainly do, and I assume that the majority of everyone reading this will as well. But were you aware that it can be very easy to break the law while out camping, even if you don’t mean to. There are a lot of rules and regulations that you need to follow while sleeping in a tent, and not doing so could land you in some serious hot water.
If you have a camping holiday coming up in the near future, you might want to keep on reading this blog. That way, you will know all of the common crimes that you need to make sure you never make!
Setting Up Camp In The Wrong Place
First of all, you need to make sure that you are setting up your tent in the right kind of place. You will be able to camp for free in most US National Parks. However, it’s important that you confirm that this is actually the case with the one you want to camp in as they aren’t always free. You should also be careful if you are going to wild camp. Make sure that the land isn’t owned by anyone or else you could be punished for trespassing.
Defacing A National Park
You might have already noticed this before when you have visited a national park – people seem to want to carve their initials onto almost any natural surface that they can. Make sure you aren’t tempted to do this as it is classed as vandalism. If you are caught doing it, then you could be charged with intentionally defacing a national park.
Lighting Fires Without Permission
If you decide to have a camp fire, you will need to be really careful. First of all, make sure that you are allowed to light the fire in the first place. Otherwise, you could end up being charged starting an illegal fire. If you are able to light one, then make sure there is always someone watching it. That way, there is less chance of it getting out of control and turning into a dangerous wildfire that could put people’s lives at risk.
Littering
When it is time for you to go home and you are clearing up your camp, be sure to take all of your rubbish with you. Thankfully, some campsites now have large bins where you can dispose of all your trash from your time camping. Don’t leave any traces of litter behind as this is a big crime that many campers are often caught doing.
Hunting Without A Permit
If you want to spend some of your time hunting, you need to make sure that you get the relevant licenses and permits to do so. If you don’t, then you could be caught and might be taken to court as a poacher.
Don’t commit these common crimes on your next camping trip!
