Quetta Attack in Pakistan’s Police Academy Leaves At Least 50 People Dead
Heavily-armed terrorists wearing suicide vests stormed a police academy in Quetta, Pakistan killing at least 59 people and wounding dozens more, rescue officials said Tuesday. This is one of the deadliest extremist attacks in years.
Three gunmen burst into the sprawling academy, targeting sleeping quarters that are home to some 700 recruits, sending terrified young men fleeing.
Most of the deaths were caused when two of the attackers blew themselves up. The third was shot dead by Frontier Corps (FC) troops. At least 120 people were injured, DawnNews reported.
Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf talked to the media after visiting the injured at the Civil Hospital in Quetta.
“I am telling the media that I am not here to speak about the lockdown; this is the time to respect the martyred, those grieving and those injured. The Quetta attack must be investigated and it must be unravelled why there was a security breach at a police training academy. All the parties signed off on the national action plan. It points to corruption and terrorism nexus. But the government is least interested in taking this seriously. Why have they not acted on it. The Prime Minster should have visited Balochistan more, instead of roaming around the world; he should have paid attention here. When a RAW agent was caught in Pakistan, why was this not taken up at international forums. Modi leaves no chance to have Pakistan declared as a terrorist state on any forum, but our government is silent on it. They have seen RAW involvement in Karachi as well; there are clear links but they do nothing against India. To truly end terrorism, the have to spend money on policing. Your local police station is a frontline in fighting terrorism but they are not interested in empowering the police”. – Imran Khan
