Commemoration of St. Maximilian Kolbe’s Death
St. Maximilian Kolbe, who was canonized in 1982, volunteered to die in the place of another at Auschwitz. In his Sunday address, during the 75th anniversary of Kolbe’s death, Pope Francis said Kolbe’s example shows “the fire of love for God and neighbor.”
St. Maximilian Kolbe, a witness of heroic charity, was the priest who was executed by the Nazis.
