Netflix has picked up a new season of “Longmire,” which it aquired from A&E after the cable channel canceled it.
The streaming service announced the pickup Friday on the show’s Facebook page: “We’ve never been one to back down from a fight,” the post reads.
The new season of “Longmire” will be its fifth overall and the second one exclusive to Netflix. The first three aired on A&E, where they drew a good-sized total audience — 3.52 million for the final season there — but not enough younger viewers for the channel’s taste.
Netflix, which cares only about subscriber fees and not how old its subscribers are, picked up the show after that and released Season 4 in September. There’s no date set for Season 5.
“Longmire” joins the list of shows renewed for 2016 and beyond.
