Interstate 20 Texas Road Accident 1 Person Killed, Police Say
Two people died this Monday morning when a tractor-trailer collided with an SUV and both burst into flames on Interstate 20, Texas. The crash was reported about 6:35 a.m. on the flyover ramp from westbound Interstate 20 to southbound I-35E.
The impact ruptured the 18-wheeler’s gas tanks, and both vehicles caught fire. The truck driver was unhurt, but at least two people in the other vehicle were killed. The big rig was carrying a load of lumber, and much of the burning wood fell from the overpass onto a grassy area and the shoulder of the highway below.
Traffic was shut down on both I-20 and I-35E while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
The ramp will remain closed until Texas Department of Transportation engineers determine if its structural integrity was compromised.
