India Heat Wave Claims Hundreds of Lives As Temperature Rises
The current India heat wave has reportedly claimed hundreds of lives and is persisting in a few areas. Officials say 852 people have died in Andhra Pradesh and another 266 have died in Telangana, where temperatures approach 50C (122F) in parts of the country.
Most of the recorded deaths have been of construction workers, the elderly or the homeless in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, said officials.
The Indian Meteorological Department said that the heat wave conditions are likely to continue over coming days.
