Emma Jones is very very talented. But unless she actually performed roles in opera in professional opera theaters, she is not an opera singer, and who knows, she might not even want to become one. She might want to become a classical crossover singer which is probably why she is on this show. Learn the difference. Will the journalists and people in charge of talent shows ever learn what opera is? Hint: Ave Maria is a song, an art song, it doesn’t come from any operas and bears zero relation to opera. Even it had been an aria from an opera, it still wouldn’t make someone who sings it an opera singer just like singing “I dream a dream” or “memory” doesn’t make one a musical theater actor. To be a musical theater actor one needs to perform roles in musicals, to be an opera singer one needs to sing roles in operas in opera theaters. An opera is not a style of singing, and “opera singer” is a profession and it refers specifically to people whose profession is to sing roles in operas in opera theaters.
