Free Southwest Airline Tickets Is A Scam And Not Real

Okay, I was almost tempted to join the free Southwest Airline tickets promotion that has been circulating on Facebook and other social media online. It sounded too good to be true. I asked myself “Is the free Southwest Airline tickets promotion a scam?” “Is this for real?” Is Southwest Airlines really giving away free air travel tickets to those who follow online links?

The message posted said something like this:

The Facebook page says “Hosted by Southwest Airline Tickets,” with a link to a page. When I clicked the link, I was hoping to be directed to the official Southwest Airline Facebook page, but no. It went to another Facebook page with only 123 ‘likes’.

The post also asked anyone who wants to join to submit a name and shipping address to a certain link. When the link is clicked, it will go to a page that will ask for more clicks on ads. It will look like this:

scam

The truth is, these web pages are NOT operated or sponsored by Southwest Airlines.

In fact, Southwest Airlines has responded to such scams by issuing messages on Twitter that read: “Hey folks! There is a scam being passed around on Facebook about a 2 free ticket offer from SWA. Please don’t click or share the links!”

As well, Southwest spokesperson Christi McNeill has said of these attempts to defraud that “We are aware of the scam for two free tickets being spread across Facebook. This offer is in no way affiliated with Southwest Airlines and we are working with Facebook to get it removed.”
