Chauncey the Hungarian Komondor may not have placed among the top working breeds at the Westminster Kennel Club finals, but judging from the uproarious applause he received upon running into the ring at Madison Square GardenTuesday night, the Rastafarian-looking pooch was already a winner in the crowd’s heart.

And what’s not to love? Though the Komondor was originally bred as a guard dog, the fiercely loyal and affectionate Hungarian now draws attention for the long, matted fur that’s earned it the nickname “mop dog.”

That mop–which both protects the Komodor’s from the cold and earns it adoration adoration at first sight–is not easy to keep clean, even for a grand champion like Chauncey. Ahead of the show, Chauncey’s owner explained how she attempts to mop up her mop dog.
