Greek Air Force F-16 Crashes During Exercise (VIDEO)

A Greek Air Force F-16 crashes at a base in Los Llanos in southeastern Spain during a NATO training exercise, authorities said. Ten people is reported dead Monday — eight French military personnel and two Greek pilots.

NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, issued this statement:

I am deeply saddened by the crash of a Greek fighter jet at the Los Llanos base in Spain, which has caused many casualties.

This is a tragedy which affects the whole NATO family. I express my heartfelt condolences to the loved ones and the nations of those who lost their lives, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.

The plane was taking part in an exercise in the framework of NATO’s Tactical Leadership Programme, which aims to improve multinational cooperation in air operations.

The NATO flight training course was expected to be a four-week program, from January 19 to February 13.
