Pattern Swastika: Walgreens Recalls Design (PHOTO)
Walgreens decided to recall wrapping paper items with the Swastika pattern on them after a Southern California woman complained about the design.
Swastika is known as a symbol in Indian religions, denoting “auspiciousness”, adopted as such in pre-WWI-Europe and later, and most notably, by the Nazi Party and Nazi Germany. Because of its use in Nazism, in many Western countries the swastika is stigmatized.
“We’re in the process of removing the product from our stores,” Walgreens spokesman Phil Caruso told ABC News.
“How could the paper go through quality control and not be seen?” Shapiro asked.
The wrapping paper is the latest item to be recalled because of cultural links to the Nazis or the Holocaust.
