Says Pantone, Marsala is the color of 2015. It looks like the reddish color of wine.
“Hardy, robust, satisfying, fulfilling. At the same time there’s a certain glamour that’s attached to this color,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
In 2014, it was Radiant Orchid, a deep tropical purple. In 2013, Emerald green. Tangerine Tango was the color in 2012.
The impactful, full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a strong accent to many other colors.
Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.
