Tugce Albayrak Killed Defending Girls Being Harassed
All German student, Tugce Albayrak, wanted was to defend two teenage girls being harassed. Now, she is dead. Albayrack landed in a coma after being hit in the head by one of the harassers.
According to BBC, the incident began when Albayrack heard two teenage girls cry for help from the restrooms at a fast food restaurant in Offenbach. Albayrack decided to intervene when she saw a group of men harassing the girls.
One of the men, an 18-year-old man, in the group came back later and hit her on the head with a bat while she was at the parking lot. The hit left her in a coma.
She was on life support since she was hit on November 15th. However, her parents made the decision to turn off life support on Friday on her 23rd birthday after doctors told them she would never regain consciousness and was brain-dead.
The attacker, named only as Senal M from the Sandzak region of Serbia, has already confessed to the crime and in police custody.
Around 150 people attended a vigil in Berlin in her memory on Sunday.
President Joachim Gauck has described the student as a “role model”.
