Scientist Sexist Shirt Gets Attention: Dr. Matt Taylor Cries and Apologizes (VIDEO)

Dr. Matt Taylor was one of the scientists responsible for firing the Philae lander rocket onto a distant comet, 67P, on Wednesday last week. While the world celebrated for the European Space Agency’s historic feat, Taylor also got a lot of attention and criticism for the shirt he was wearing. The physicist wore a shirt that depicted several semi-naked woman, and people on social media said the images on it were ‘sexist’.

In a latest report from the Guardian, Dr. Matt Taylor gave a teary, heartfelt apology for wearing the shirt.

“I made a big mistake, and I offended many people,” Taylor said at Friday’s media briefing, his voice trembling, “and I’m very sorry about this.”

Philae is on a comet traveling at 11 miles per second, some 320 million miles from Earth.

It landed on the comet on Wednesday and Saturday scientists will see if they are able to talk to the lander after its battery ran down.
