Iselle and Julio

Two tropical storms will hit the islands of Hawaii this week. Hurricane Iselle will make landfall later this week and Tropical Storm Julio potentially hitting a few days later. Hurricane Iselle is expected to make landfall by Thursday, officials said.

“Hawaii is a small target in the big ocean, so it just has to be really good timing and the conditions have to be right for us to get a direct hit,” said Eric Lau, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

The last time Hawaii was hit with a tropical storm or hurricane was in 1992, when Hurricane Iniki killed six people and destroyed more than 1,400 homes in Kauai, Lau said.
