Benghazi Bombing Suspect Ahmed Abu Khattala Captured by U.S. Authorities

S-consulate-compoundThe Washington Post first reported the capture of Ahmed Abu Khattala, one of the suspected ringleaders of the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said that the raid was carried out Sunday in cooperation with law enforcement personnel. Khattala is being held in a secure location outside of Libya, and all U.S. personnel involved in the operation have departed the country.

There were no civilian casualties, Kirby said.
