University of Oklahoma Shooting Turns Out False Alarm (VIDEO)
Report: The reports of the University of Oklahoma shooting today, Wednesday, were false, the school’s president said this afternoon. There was no shooting nor a gunman on the campus.
The school was placed on lockdown around 12:30 p.m. today after a faculty member told police they heard three noises that sounded like gunshots, President David L. Boren said at a news conference today.
At 1 p.m., however, the school said it had no evidence of shots fired, but were still investigating.
The university told ABC News the initial reports said shots were possibly fired on campus near Gould Hall. Authorities are not aware of any reported injuries.
Police were immediately on the scene of the reported shooting, the school said.
The school posted a notice on its website Wednesday that people should avoid Gould Hall. A notice sent by its Twitter account said: “Seek immediate shelter in place.”
The university is located in Norman, about 20 miles south of Oklahoma City.
