Plane Crash

A small jet crashed and caught fire at Santa Monica Airport Sunday, September 30, 2013, said a spokesman with the Federal Aviation Administration.

Santa Monica firefighters responded to the 3000 block of Donald Douglas Loop around 6:22 p.m. following reports of an aircraft incident.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said a twin-engine Cessna Citation went off the right side of the runway after landing. He did not know how many people were on board the twin-engine Cessna Citation at the time of the incident.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

A plume of smoke rising above the airport could be seen from surrounding areas.
