N.Y. Mall Shooting Kills 1: Suspect Sang Ho Kim Wanted
Police on Long Island are searching for a gunman after a shooting left 1 dead and 1 injured at a business near the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City.
The N.Y. mall shooting happened in the rear of a lighting company on South Street in Garden City late Wednesday morning. Police believe the suspect was a vendor to the business where the shooting took place.
One person, a worker at the business died on the scene, another victim, the CEO of the company was taken to the hospital and was immediately taken to surgery.
“The company was occupied by about 4 employees at the time,” said Nassau County Chief of Department Steven Skrynecki. “He entered one room where the owner CEO and an employee were. He opened fire immediately on those two individuals.”
Police are searching for a suspect identified as Sang Ho Kim, 64, and described as a 6’2″ Asian male, wearing a red shirt, grey or brown suit jacket and driving a white Honda Pilot. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
The vehicle has a New York license plate FMA 3648, police said.
“This does not seem to be an active shooter, the place of business seems to have been targeted,” said Nassau County Police Chief .
The Roosevelt Field Mall and nearby schools were all put on lockdown or lock out mode but those were all lifted after 2 p.m.
A store employee told Eyewitness News that mall security told the stores to lock the doors shortly after the shooting.
“Me and my boss locked our doors and ran to the stock room,” Kia said. “As far as we know, no one is allowed to leave the mall. No one is allowed to enter the mall.”
Kia said that no shoppers were inside the store where she works. She said all of the stores had locked their doors. The lockdown and lockout ended Wednesday evening.
