Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Weaver surprised everyone with her upset win for supporting comedy actress — and then with the shortest acceptance speech ever, she said: “Thanks so much. Thank you so much. I gotta go. Bye.”
Emmy Awards 2013 host Neil Patrick Harris commented, “Best acceptance speech ever.”
It was, indeed.
Backstage, Merritt Weaver said to the press, “I’m sorry I didn’t thank anyone. I was going to cry, that’s why. I’m scared. I’m scared because it was unexpected. I have therapy next week.”
Weaver beat contenders Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”), Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”), Jane Krakowski (“30 Rock”), Jane Lynch (“Glee”), Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”), and Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”).
