MIG-21 Fighter Jets Uncovered Inside Seized North Korean Ship
Inside a crate sits MiG-21 fighter jets seized from a ship bound for North Korea.
Authorities in Panama have now uncovered two supersonic planes among arms from Cuba found hidden in the shipment.
The jets are believed to have been produced in the 1950s by the Soviet Union.
They’re among radar systems and surface-to-air missiles also discovered under thousands of sacks of sugar.
Panama’s President Ricardo Martinelli toured the shipment as officials said the U.N. are set to investigate the cargo.
Cuba says the arms are “obsolete” and were being sent to North Korea for repair.
But authorities in Panama fear the shipment breaches an arms embargo.
The crew of the North Korean ship have been charged with attempting to smuggle undeclared weapons.
