Girl Discovers Dinosaur: New Species Called Vectidraco Daisymorrisae
The new species of dinosaur found has been named Vectidraco Daisymorrisae, after the little girl who discovered it. Daisy Morris was only five years old when she picked up some sort of fossilised remains while strolling on a beach stretch on Isle of Wight in 2008. It turned out that the fossil was from a dinosaur.
According to Daily Mail, the family took the fossil to dinosaur expert Martin Simpson. After years of study, Palaeontologists Darren Naish and Gareth Dyke announced this week that it came from a new species of flying dinosaur.
They revealed the creature was roughly the size of a crow and was a previously unknown type of pterosaur.
The family has donated the remains to the Natural History Museum.
To give credit to the girl who discovered the fossil, they name the new species Vectidraco Daisymorrisae.
As a note, Daisy Morris, is now aged nine, and has amassed a collection of fossils and animal remains. One expert described her bedroom as ‘resembling a natural history museum.’ Daisy has dedicated her room to the study of animals and dinosaurs.
