Top Restaurant Sickens 63: Denmark’s Noma Investigated
The top restaurant sickens at least 63 diners this week. Noma, Denmark’s best restaurant and also considered one of the world’s best gourmet restaurants, has been investigated by health officials after 63 customers fell ill after eating there between February 12 and 16. The virus that hit the two-star Michelin eatery causes vomiting and diarrhea.
According to the Copenhagen Post, the national food authorities, Fødevarestyrelsen, found hygiene problems after inspection on February 20.
“There has been illness among staff who have handled the food products”, Fødevarestyrelsen wrote in its report. “The inspection visit was due to guests complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea.”
Noma has also been criticized for not disinfecting the kitchen in time in order to prevent the contagion from spreading. It also discovered that there was no hot water in the taps that staff used to wash their hands.
