Whisky Flushed Down The Drain Accidentally At Scotland Distillery
A Chivas Regal distillery plant in Scotland stated that they accidentally flushed 6,000 gallons, about 18,000 liters, of whiskey down the drain. The mistake occurred when workers mistook the spirit for waste water. The release caused some concerns in the water treatment system, but thankfully didn’t make it into any natural bodies of water.
A statement from Chivas Brothers said: “We are currently investigating an accidental loss on the 26th of February at our Dumbarton site, where some spirit was released to the local water treatment plant.
“There has been no release of spirit to the River Leven or any other local water course. We have informed Scottish Water and all other relevant authorities.”
A Scottish Water spokesman said that their agency is continuing to monitor Dumbarton waste water treatment processes to ensure treatment has not been compromised.
