26 Die as Fireworks Truck Explodes in China (VIDEO)

At least 26 people died when a truck carrying fireworks exploded and destroyed part of an elevated highway in central China’s Henan province, state media reported on Friday.

According to a spokesman from Henan Transport Bureau, five to six vehicles fell from the bridge. Reports also claim that the south side of the bridge collapsed completely and cracks have appeared on the northern carriageway.

Details of exactly what happened are not clear but witnesses say they saw the truck explode and “about 10” cars blown off the bridge by the blast.

Annually, fireworks form a central part of Chinese New Year which this year falls next weekend.
