How To Disable Java on PC, Mac – Firefox, Safari, Chrome

javaOracle Corp’s Java software is in total mess right now. We have posted the warning issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security here, requesting that Java should be disabled in your computer – PC or Mac.

So how to disable Java on PC or Mac, and in your individual Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Chrome browsers?

If you have the latest Java software, just go to the Java Control Panel for Windows. Uncheck the Security tab labeled “Enable Java content in the browser”. All your browsers should be Java-free.

For Microsoft Internet Explorer. Keep the Java Control Panel for Windows open and go to Advanced. Under “Default Java for Browsers”, uncheck “Microsoft Internet Explorer” (click the space bar to uncheck the IE box) and uncheck also the “Mozilla family.” You might as well also uncheck “Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in”.

For Mozilla Firefox. Open the browser, go to “Tools”, select the “Add-ons” item in the main menu, go to “plug-ins” then disable Java.

For Google Chrome. Type this “chrome://plugins” into the address bar to access the menu to disable Java.

For Opera. PC Magazine’s Neil Rubenking says “about:config” will work for Opera.

For Apple’s Safari. Go to “System Preferences”, double click on “java” to open the control panel, go the “Security”, and then uncheck “Enable Java.”
