Prader Willi Syndrome – Rare Genetic Eating Disorder

Matthew Hummel has Prader Willi Syndrome. The 20-year-old was diagnosed with the disease when he was three. No matter how much he eats, he’s never full. Matthew’s parents says PWS makes their son steal food then hide out and eat it. The Hummels have dozens of locks on freezers, refrigerators and cupboards, and even have alarms on windows and doors. The Hummels say Matthew can’t control his actions. He’s even started going into neighbors’ houses to get food and even going through trash.

According to a report, a man who lives across the street from the Hummels didn’t want to go on camera and says his children don’t feel safe in their own home.

The neighbor says after three years of tolerating Matthew coming into his house and stealing his food, he doesn’t know what else to do. He filed a complaint that lead to charges against Matthew for breaking and entering.
