Pinta Island Tortoise or Lonesome George – Galapagos Islands

Galapagos Islands hosts the rarest animal in the world today – the Pinta Island Tortoise aka Lonesome George. The male Pinta Island tortoise (Geochelone elephantopus abingdoni) is the only one of its kind left. When he dies the Pinta tortoises will be extinct.

The Charles Darwin Research Station has been searching for a female tortoise, and is giving a reward of $10,000 to those that could find one.
