Freep is live blogging the sentencing of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Judge David Groner sentenced Kwame Kilpatrick to 18 months to five years in state prison for violation on his probation in a sex-texting scandal.
“Your testimony in this court amounted to perjury,” the judge told Kilpatrick. “Most compelling is that you lied to this court, continue to lie, after you pleaded guilty to lying….The initial 120 days incarceration did nothing to rehabilitate you.”
As the courtroom began to buzz, Groner raised his voice and ordered Kilpatrick to be swift. “Sergeant could you secure the defendant please and put him in the back?” Groner said.
I think former mayor Kilpatrick punishment was cruel and usual, considering his crime. Everyday politician are exposed for lying about affairs with someone outside their marriage. I am reminded of Michael Jackson’s message in one of his songs, “take a look at the man in the murror”. I hope someone in the judical system will you common sense and be fair. This sentence has confused
the average black person about justice.
