The 2010 Forbes list of Billionaires has Carlos Slim Helu being ranked as the Richest Man in the World. He took over Bill Gates spot with a worth of US $53.5 billion dollars. The Mexican tycoon owns various telecom holdings, including giant mobile outfit America Movil. More of the list is here.

Carlos Slim is definitely old school. He’s of the tried and true “guerrilla billionaire” strategy: buy lots of businesses and either keep them for the cash flow or fix ‘em up and sell them. The goal is to make money off a lot of deals instead of a killing on just one.
