All The Little Things… Thoughtful Ways To Help A Loved One Through A Bad Time

Support and motivation are two different things, but sometimes we need one to work in conjunction with the other. Whether you have a loved one who is going through a bad time, or they feel under the weather in an emotional sense, it can be a fine line between offering guidance and ordering them to “straighten up and fly right”. But when it comes to helping a loved one stay motivated and on track, whether they’ve lost a job, or they’re going through some personal problems, there are some simple, yet thoughtful, ideas to try.

Take The Silly Approach

Sometimes all they need is to know that you are there for them, and not to be overly sentimental. Sometimes a silly little gift may be all that you need to do. Whether this is a cuddly toy or even a trophy that says “U Iz Awesum!” from a personalized trophy range, the sentiment is always appreciated. If someone you love is going through a hard time, dwelling on the subject can be a little too much to bear, so by taking a humorous or silly angle, it lets them know that you care about them.

Go On An Adventure

While taking up a hobby is a suitable distraction method, they are not in the right frame of mind to focus on it, it can leave them dwelling or feeling a bit empty. So, the best approach is to take them out of their natural habitat, in other words, get in the car, go on the train, or just go anywhere on an adventure. A change of scenery is always beneficial, and it has wondrous effects on anyone’s frame of mind.

Let Them Talk

It’s surprising that when we have a problem, we can refuse to talk about it, or just avoid the subject completely. And, it can be frustrating try and get someone to open up, but by doing it in a relaxed fashion, and giving them time to get their feelings off their chest; this is going to help solve the problem. Giving someone the floor, especially when they’ve gone through something difficult can take some time, but so many people refuse to open up, and this is the first step to overcoming any personal issue.

Be There For Them

Sometimes it’s really that simple, if someone’s going through a bad time, they can feel like they are going through it alone. But if you are there for them, even if you don’t talk about the problem, but you are there in person for them, or you are texting them on a regular basis, this can help them get through the problem or even start to address their problems. And sometimes, you need to be literal and tell them that you are there for them.

You need to know your place when you’re trying to gently guide someone in the right direction, and the first step to solving this is by being there for them. People can feel like they are alone, but if you can use little tools, this will be the perfect starting point, regardless of their emotional state.
